CARDIAC SURGERY
What is Cardiac surgery?
Cardiac surgery is a medical procedure performed on the heart when it is not working properly. It is often needed to fix issues like blocked arteries that restrict blood flow to the heart (often caused by heart attacks) or to repair or replace damaged heart valves that control blood flow in and out of the heart. Surgeons may also address congenital heart defects present from birth. During surgery, the heart may be temporarily stopped and a heart-lung machine used to keep blood flowing throughout the body. The goal is to improve heart function, reduce symptoms like chest pain or shortness of breath, and ultimately help patients live healthier lives.
